The formative years
Jean Marc Lange was born in Canteleu, on the heights above Rouen, and spent his childhood in Grand-Quevilly, in Normandy.
His talent as a draughtsman showed early. Thanks to a special dispensation granted by his teachers, he was admitted at just fifteen to the École Régionale des Beaux-Arts in Rouen, then housed in the Aître Saint-Maclou, a sixteenth-century cloister in the heart of the old town.
His outstanding results soon led him to Paris.
